$2.3M Awarded in Bowflex Case

Tuesday, 23 December 2008 02:41 by Admin

After a case that has taken over nine years to bring a result, Jim Warner and his wife finally have justice. In 2000, they bought a “Bowflex Power Pro” system, the popular in home weightlifting machine.  Two years later, while properly using the machine, Warner was lifting weights when the bench snapped, and caused a herniated disc in his upper back.  He continues to have nerve damage and his right arm will never recover.

There have been other reports of other injuries from the cheaply made bench.  This particular case was awarded over $2.3M.  Unfortunately, Bowflex continues to manufacture these defective to the detriment of society. If you have a Bowflex system, check the structural integrity before using it.

Tuesday, 23 December 2008 02:03 by Admin

In 2007, the investigation to discover what the problem with the Power Sweep electric leaf blowers was. When this electric leaf blower is in use, tiny pieces of plastic were spraying out of the blower and hitting the operator as well as any other people in the general vicinity.  Around the country people were reporting bruises, cuts, and other injuries.

The company recalled over 900,000 leaf blowers because there is a malfunction with the internal fans.  Pieces were coming off from the propellers, which were not constructed to withstand the appropriate pressure.

The company, Torro, has only receive a few of the recalled leaf blower back, and urge customers to trade theirs in for a new one, so that it will prevent further injuries.

Electrical Christmas Products May be Dangerous

Wednesday, 10 December 2008 05:38 by Admin

Two companies who make electronic Christmas decorations, Otter Trail Power Company and the Electric Safety Foundation International, warn that any rip offs of their products could be profoundly dangerous.

These companies warn that these counterfeited products may look very similar to the real stuff, but in fact they are not well manufactured and may cause dangerous overloads, that could cause fires.

These products can be found at local gift stores, which offer lower prices and make them more attractive for customers to buy.  You need to check the packaging to see who the manufacture is and if they are real companies.

These two companies are warning customers to stay away from deals that seem too good to be true. These products can be dangerous so stay away from them to keep a tragedy from happening to you over the holidays.

Reebok Recall

Wednesday, 10 December 2008 04:55 by Admin

The famously reliable shoe company Reebok has partnered up with the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) to create a public campaign for a recall of about a thousand of Reebok’s products.

The hockey helmets that Reebok produced are being recalled because the chinstrap does not function properly.  On impact the helmet’s chin strap can disengage, risking the person wearing it to become injured if the helmet flies off.  Head and neck injuries are very serious, so the safety of the product is of the utmost importance for young hockey players.

If you have a Reebok hockey helmet check to see if the sticker reads “HECC JUN-2013,” and was purchased sometime between May and July of this year. If this is your helmet you need to contact the CPSC immediately, especially if your child has been injured while wearing the helmet.

IKEA: The Fight over Candles

Monday, 1 December 2008 03:36 by Admin

Everyone has heard of the foreign furniture company IKEA which has entered into the USA’s cheap furniture niche.  This do-it-yourself furniture store is especially popular with college students and other low income groups.  However, earlier this week the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) discussed with the press how IKEA is being forced to pay half a million dollars to the government for a type of outdoor candle that has found to be defective.

The defective products caused several injuries when the buyers tried to extinguish their candles by blowing then out.  The fire would flare up and burn the victim’s face.   This candle has been in the marketplace for sometime, between 2001 and 2005, so there are many who have been affected by this defective product.
