The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has expressed concern for 64 companies in three counties that are reporting more workplace injuries than the nation’s average.
The 64 businesses in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland counties have received a letter stating that workers in their business are being injured more frequently than other businesses like theirs in the country. The letter states that immediate action to correct the issues that are causing the injuries need to happen, but no fees are given with the letter.
Twenty of the companies have been flagged on another occasion in the past five years, and two of the companies has received letters every year since 2005. Nationwide, OSHA sent out 15,000 letters. Some think that the notices are insufficient but OSHA said that their are not enough resources within the administration to more strictly enforce policies.
