A 76-year-old man was struck and killed in a pedestrian accident while crossing Queens Blvd on August 6.
The man was struck by a marked Correction Department car that was heading south around 5:30 a.m. near 80th Street. Emergency crews arrived at the scene and rushed the 76-year-old man to Jamaica Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
This area of Queens Blvd is nicknamed Boulevard of Death by residents in the area because 73 pedestrians were killed there between 1993 and 2000. Officials are investigating to see whether the cop was at fault or if the pedestrian was walking against the traffic light.
