Lawsuits against the makers of Accutane, a once popular acne medication, have reached 3,000 this month. The lawsuits all claim that the medication led people to develop negative health side effects such as issues with their bowels.

The first lawsuit against Accutane was filed in September 2004 and the 3,000th was filed in February 2011. The suits have been consolidated into a mass tort in New Jersey and have nearly tripled in the last nine months since May 2010

The lawsuits claims that Accutane users developed inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis from using the medication.
