A seventy-nine car pileup occurred on Highway 73 in Port Arthur last week. Luckily, there were no fatalities, but 54 people were injured.
Out of the injured, three people suffered serious injuries. Eighteen drivers involved in the crash were cited for multiple reasons including failure to stop and driving with a suspended license. When police receive the call about the wreck, it only involved four cars.
By the time they arrived at the scene, there were 50 cars involved. Many other drivers stopped their cars because they could not pass or to offer assistance to other drivers. Emergency crews were on the scene for hours and took nearly six hours for the roadway to be reopened. Officials have said that smoke from a nearby marsh fire and fog made it difficult for drivers to see.
