Fire Destroys Parts of Universal Studios

Monday, 2 June 2008 04:26 by Admin

Late Saturday evening, a fire was supposedly started in the Universal Studios theme park in Los Angelos, California.  Officials immediately arrived on the scene and began working quickly to put out the overwhelming fire that was taking over the entire theme park. Officials say that many of the movie sets and background areas were badly burned in the blaze. The fire also took over a room that held quite a few movie reels and in their plastic cases which were quickly set ablaze.

Late into Sunday afternoon, the fire was still smoldering in quite a few areas of the Universal Studios grounds. Officials have yet to say why the fire was started. Although much of the sets were damaged, Universal Studios says they are working hard to open back up by Monday morning for a normal day. They are working hard to find the cause to this tremendous fire and rebuild the sets that were either damaged or destroyed in the massive fire.

Fire in San Antonio Dorms

Monday, 12 May 2008 06:22 by Admin

Over the weekend, students were evacuated from their dorm at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. A large fire broke out in the dorm where more than 111 students were housed. The administrative offices were also at the bottom floor of the building that caught on fire.

Officials are taking time to look into the exact reasoning for the start of the fire. Arson detectives have also come in to inspect the area. No statements have been put out about the reasoning of the fire.

The students that were evacuated from the building were placed in other dorms around the campus area until their dorm could be cleared for re-entry. The flames were said to have been so powerfully burning that they were lighting up the sky. Students say that false fire alarms had been happening for weeks so this felt like nothing new until they saw the enormous amount of smoke pouring from the fourth floor windows. There is no word yet on injuries or lawsuits that will be filed from any of the students living in the dorm.

Texas Refinery Explosion Injures One

Monday, 18 February 2008 03:36 by Admin
An Alon USA refinery located 250 miles west of Fort Worth, Texas, experienced a massive explosion at 8am on February 18th. Firefighters and other local authorities responded to the call as the explosion erupted into a raging fire. East of the town of Big Spring, Texas, the refinery explosion is reported to have only seriously injured one person. Transported to a Lubbock hospital, the worker's condition is still unknown. Residents nearby were advised to evacuate to ensure their safety and highway I-20 was shut down given its close proximity to the refinery. Local schools have also been closed for the time being. Firefighters have successfully controlled the fire and no one else appears to be in danger at this time. A local television station reported that the blast was felt as far away as Gardendale, which is located nearly 60 miles away from Big Spring. Medical teams from across West Texas have gathered to help in caring for those with minor injuries. Other than the serious injury of one worker, the minor injuries of others, and extensive property damage, the blast seems to have spared the lives of all involved. According to sources, Alon USA refinery produces around 70,000 barrels per day and the refinery has never seen a disaster to this scale in its operating history.
