Ranbaxy Drugs Blocked in American

Wednesday, 1 October 2008 03:09 by Admin
Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals Ltd  is a pharmaceutical company located in New Delhi.  Two of its subsidiary plants in Dewas and Paonta, which develop generic drugs, have been blocked by the US Food and Drug Administration.  30 of the generic drugs they produce will not be allowed to be sold in the United States.  Both plants failed to meet the Good Manufacturing Practice, a standard developed and required for prescription drugs.

Although these drugs account for about 40% of Ranbaxy’s revenues, the company argues that it will have minimal impact on their income.  Some examples of blocked drugs include:

·         Acyclovir

·         Fluconazole

·         Isotretinoin

·         Ranitidine

·         Terazosin

These drugs will be available in the US, but will be forced to undergo heavy supervision and warnings to consumers that these drugs did not pass all safety inspections usually employed by the USDA.

Snowmobiles from Ski-Doo Recalled

Wednesday, 1 October 2008 02:52 by Admin

In the winter, much of the news is related to winter sporting accidents, anything from avalanches, skiing mishaps, to cars sliding off the road.  Sometimes these accidents are due to a person’s negligence, but often times it is the equipment that is to blame. It is not surprising then that one of the world’s premier snowmobile manufactures, Ski-Doo, has recalled their new 2008 and 2009 snowmobiles.  Models MXZ X 800R PowerTEK, MXZ Adrenaline 600HO SDI, MXZ Renegade X 800R PowerTEK, and the 2009 MXZ X 800R Power TEX MXZ X 600HO SDI, are some of the long list of recalled vehicles from Ski-Doo.

Apparently the are problems with the drive axle assembly, which according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission needs to be fixed before attempting to use these machines.  Owners are advised to visit their local repair shop to get this problem fixed immediately, because the damage to the drive axle assembly could cause an accident while being used.  The Commission states that while the drive axle assembly was being contracted there was an issue in the welding process which caused this part to develop cracks.  These cracks could lead to a complete failure of the drive axel.

Thimerosal: Do the Benefits Outweigh the Costs?

Wednesday, 24 September 2008 03:31 by Admin
Thimerosal is used to help preserve vaccination; it sounds innocent, helpful, and harmless.  However, Thimerosal is a dangerous drug, not only because it contains Mercury, a substance known to be deadly, but because it can lead to devastating side effects and risks. Mercury is a neurotoxin, the second most toxic substance known to man.

The use of Mercury in Thimerosal dates back to the 1930s, when vaccines were being produced on a large scale.  However, with current medical technology and research methods, scientists have discovered that Thimerosal leads to neurodevelopemental disorders as well as autism.  Government officials argue that the amount of mercury allowed in each vaccine is so small that it cannot lead to these side effects.  However, many researchers have shown that pediatricians are using up to one hundred times the amount set out by guidelines.

Thimerosal is most dangerous when exposed to infants who receive all their required vaccines, and can develop autism at early ages.  With all the technology and scientific advancement, we no longer need to use mercury in the medical field; the costs are just too high.

Pillows in the Nursery

Monday, 15 September 2008 02:13 by Admin

Although a pillow my seem like a small and safe comfort to us, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning Americans that pillows can be a dangerous item when placed in the crib of an infant.  The CPSC has reported that almost 50 infants have died from suffocation in the past two years, a number that disturbs researchers and parents alike.  The study also went back to 1992 and showed that pillow and cushions were responsible for the deaths of over 500 babies.

In addition to their current findings the CPSC also published a list of helpful hints for new parents to keep their babies safe. Some tips suggest placing a crib away from windows that have blind cords coming off, as babies sometime will chew and choke on the string.  They also suggest finding out whether or not the crib you own meets current government safety standards.

To find the complete list you should visit the CPSC’s website for more information.
