Emend Overview

Monday, 5 November 2007 09:15 by Admin

Emend is an anti-vomiting drug used to prevent and control nausea and vomiting. It is used with other antiemetic drugs to prevent and control nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy treatment. It is also used on its own to prevent nausea and vomiting after surgery. It is not used to treat vomiting and nausea that already exists. It is used just to treat vomiting and nausea induced by other medical procedures.

You should not use Emend if you are already taking Orap, Seldane, Hisminal, or Propulsid because interaction between the two drugs can result in life-threatening problems. You also should not take Emend if you are allergic to any of the drugs in Emend. Emend requires that people who are undergoing chemotherapy, are on coumadin (a common blood thinner), or are taking birth control pills.

Like any medication, there are possible side effects. With Emend, these include tiredness, nausea, hiccups, constipation, diarrhea, and a loss of apetite.
