Imitrex Overview

Monday, 5 November 2007 09:24 by Admin

Imitrex is a prescription medication used in the short-term treatment of most types of migraine attacks in adults. Imitrex is not used to prevent migraines so much as decrease the number of migraine attacks.

Imitrex is not for everyone. Uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease or a history of heart disease, strokes, bad circulation to to the arms, legs, or bowels, and severe liver disease are all medical conditions that preclude a person from taking Imitrex. The side effects of Imitrex include but are not limited to dizzyness, tiredness, tingling, and flushing. Other, more serious side effects include pain, pressure, or tightness in the throat and a rare serious reaction to the medication.

Recently, the FDA released a warning that taking Imitrex with medications meant to prevent depression can result in seratonin syndrome. This syndrome's symptoms include but are not limited to restlessness, hallucinations, loss of coordination, fast heart beat, increased body temperature, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or a coma.
