Monday, 7 April 2008 05:58 by Admin

Malt-O-Meal recalls their unsweetened Puffed Rice and unsweetened Puffed Wheat cereals with expiration dates ranging from April 08, 2008 to March 18, 2009. Company says they may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is a bacteria formed in food that can cause severe illnesses in young children, the elderly, or those with weak immune systems. This cereal produced in Minneapolis, Minnesota was voluntarily recalled and company hopes that all will be taken off the shelves as soon as possible. Although the products have already been distributed, the company is urging the stores to take them off the shelves and get as many off of the trucks as they can.

The products were distributed under the Malt-O-Meal brand name as well as a variety of others including: Acme, America’s Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw’s Shoprite, Tops, and Weis Quality. Malt-O-Meal Company says that they didn’t know at the time or distribution of this and immediately sent out the recall.
