Texas billionaire killed in car crash in Aspen

A philanthropist and Texas billionaire, Charlie Wyly, was killed in a car accident in Colorado on Monday.

The 77-year-old man was attempting to make a left turn onto Highway 82 near his home in Aspen when he was hit on the driver’s side of his vehicle.

According to Colorado police, emergency crews arrived at the scene in order to transport the man to Aspen Valley Hospital where he was later pronounced dead due to injuries sustained. The driver of the vehicle that struck Wyly suffered non-life threatening injury.

Wyly founded many businesses such as Micheals, Sterling Software, Bonanza Steakhouse and Maverick Capital. He also donated nearly $10 million to GOP candidates since the 1970s.
